The ASEAN-Swiss Partnership on Social Forestry and Climate Change (ASFCC) is a Partnership Programme of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that aims to contribute to the ASEAN Mandate and Policy Framework through support for the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN) and the ASEAN Multisectoral Framework on Climate Change towards Food Security (AFCC). With assistance from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the ASFCC addresses interlinked issues of food security, poverty and climate change particularly in forested landscapes in Southeast Asia through Cooperation and Partnership Programme activities with ASEAN Member States (AMS).
ASFN establishment was endorsed by the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF) in August 2005 with a vision to promote social forestry in ASEAN Countries. The ASFCC supports the ASFN’s efforts to enhance links between government forestry policy-makers with other network members from civil society, research organizations, academia, private sectors and experts of related fields- all who share an interest in people-oriented approaches to forest policy and management.
Through technical and financial support for the AFCC, the ASFCC contributes to sustainable, efficient and effective use of ASEAN’s land, forest, water and aquatic resources by minimizing their risks, impacts and contributions to climate change.
Designed in consultation with the AMS, ASFCC has two objectives:
- Social Forestry (SF) approaches developed and integrated into the climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies of ASEAN and the Member States;
- Socio-economic benefits derived from the inclusion of communities, women and vulnerable groups in SF and climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.
