AWG-SF ASEAN Guiding Principle for Effective SF in ASEAN

Pursuant to the 15th AWG-SF Meeting to deliver the ASEAN Policy Review Documentation, the first workshop was conducted on 2 September 2021, and attended by the representative of AWG-SF focal point from Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It was also attended by AWG-SF Secretariat and ASEAN Secretariat.

The workshop agreed on the methodology and provided input to the draft questionnaire to the next step. Also agreed that the final document may refer as ASEAN Guiding Principles for Effective Social Forestry.

Dr. Bambang Suprianto, Director General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Indonesia, as the current chair of AWG-SF, delivered the opening remarks that emphasize that the strong and clear regulation as well as implementation are important in advancing SF. This initiative could serve to improve the understanding among AMS for enabling laws on social forestry and necessary to learn from the past to make a different in the future.

ClientEarth and RECOFTC will provide technical support and coordination under this collaboration,
providing a diverse combination of expertise, knowledge and skills to support the successful development of this initiative
